Hourly Pay Rate: $16.00 – $18:00

Work hours: Various shifts based on shelter needs. Saturday availability required.

Job Summary 

The Adoption & Community Program Coordinator supports the Adoption & Program Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the adoption department, front office, and community assistance programs. This position provides leadership to the Adoption Counselors while helping ensure excellent customer service and efficient shelter operations.

Job Duties 

• Coordinate the adoption process from application through placement.  
• Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Adoption Counselors. 
• Administer community assistance and veterinary support programs, including application review, scheduling, recordkeeping, and grant compliance. 
• Assist visitors, answer phones and emails and maintain accurate records. 
• Coordinate appointments and enter information into ShelterLuv and Microsoft Office. 
• Resolve customer concerns professionally and collaborate with other shelter departments. 
• Assist with staff training and support efficient daily operations. 
• Attend staff meetings, follow HSDC policies, and perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent. 
• Three years of experience in customer service, office administration, veterinary medicine, animal welfare, nonprofit work, or a related field. 
• Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn ShelterLuv. 
• Valid driver’s license and successful background check. 

Preferred

• Experience in an animal shelter, rescue, or veterinary clinic. 
• Leadership or staff training experience. 
• Experience administering community assistance or grant-funded programs

Physical Requirements 

Work is performed in an active animal shelter with exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, noise, and allergens. Must be able to safely handle companion animals, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform physical activities including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting. Must be available to work weekends, potentially work on holidays, and additional hours as needed.
