Shelter Statistics
HSDC is a proud participant in data collection for Shelter Animals Count, a nonprofit “providing facts and enabling insights to save lives.”
We use the Basic Data Matrix to report universal, minimum data points for HSDC dogs and cats. However, the data excludes public services and other species.
Then, we calculate the Lifesaving Percentage, shown in parentheses. HSDC calculates this number by dividing the number of animals adopted, returned to owners, or transferred by the total number of outcomes. The rule of thumb for success is currently 90%. Still, our animal welfare community is raising the bar every day!
For 2020, our Lifesaving Percentage was 94%. We took in over 500 homeless dogs and almost 1,000 cats!
January 2021 (95%)
February 2021 (96%)
