Building partnerships and providing low-cost programs to the Delaware County community is an important part of the HSDC mission. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we believe that providing services that are accessible to all residents is an important part of our role in the Delaware County community. These services go beyond our traditional sheltering of abused, neglected, and homeless animals.
It is estimated there are over 612,000 individuals living in Delaware County that are 55 or older. Many have pets that provide enormous health and emotional benefits to their owners. Research has proven that the human-animal bond is especially beneficial to both human and animals. The health benefits of a pet are numerous ―from reducing social isolation to improving depression, high blood pressure, and many chronic illnesses. When you improve care for a pet, you also improve outcomes for the humans who love them. Unfortunately, seniors with limited resources, transportation issues, memory loss or physical limitations may skip or share their meals in order to ensure their pets do not go hungry.
The Humane Society of Delaware County partners with SourcePoint’s Meals on Wheels program to provide the Pet Care Assistance Program (PCAP). Low cost or free veterinary care is provided by HSDC clinic, by appointment. From routine vaccines, preventative medications/testing, dental care, and necessary surgical procedures, we are here to ensure your pets stay healthy.
If you know a senior in Delaware County who could benefit from the HSDC’s PCAP program, please contact us at (740) 369-7387 for additional information.
OUR GOAL: All pets have access to veterinary care necessary to maintain a healthy life.
