Below are detailed descriptions of each of the four funds.
Spay/Neuter Fund: Goal $35,000
Donations made to the spay / neuter fund subsidize surgery costs for low income families and feral cats living throughout the county.
Thanks to the progressive programming of the Humane Society of Delaware County, county residents since the 1980's have had an affordable opportunity to reduce pet overpopulation, with dog populations within the county nearing a manageable number.
Unfortunately, cat populations continue to spiral out of control, with recent foreclosures adding a devastating spike in the abundance of stray cats.
During 2007, the Humane Society of Delaware County performed over 3,000 medical surgeries. In 2008, the society has performed over 4,500 surgeries; including 250 spay/neuter surgeries during the week of November 17th! That's real results made possible by real sponsors!
Money raised through this fund will go directly to the Humane Society of Delaware County Spay / Neuter fund to subsidize the cost of surgery for cats within the county. By donating now you will reduce the number of neglected cats born into homeless situations.
Humane Service Fund: Goal $24,000
Donations made to the humane service fund support the efforts of humane agents responding to the needs of sick, injured, abused, and neglected animals in Delaware County.
The Humane Society of Delaware County is the sole organization providing services to neglected and abused animals in the county. Residents have come to depend on the society to respond to animals in need, and the society has graciously offered this much needed service since 1972.
In 2008 cruelty complaints have increased over 200% compared to one year earlier. This dramatic increase is the result of the county's ever expanding population, combined with a growing awareness of what constitutes animal abuse.
Money raised during this fund will go directly to support humane services which provide the education, resources, investigations, and prosecution necessary to stop animal abuse in Delaware County.
By donating now you will ensure injured and abused animals receive the help they deserve. Your donation stops local animal abuse!
Volunteer Program Fund: Goal $24,000
Donations made to the volunteer program fund support the driving force behind the Humane Society of Delaware County.
Since its inception, the Humane Society of Delaware County has depended upon volunteers. Each year, humane society volunteers provide over 9,000 hours of service. Following the national value equivalency rate, this computes to $180,000 in service. That's $180,000 saved each year, thanks to the dedicated volunteers of the Humane Society of Delaware County.
This year, volunteers performed spay / neuter surgeries, trained dogs, enriched the lives of cats, build additions, performed maintenance, took pets to nursing homes, organized mobile adoptions, served behind the desk, and through it all, helped animals!
Money raised through this fund will go directly to support volunteer services, specifically the funding for a part time volunteer coordinator.
The Humane Society of Delaware County has the greatest volunteers in Central Ohio. Each donation to the volunteer program fund supports this irreplaceable asset and strengthens the leadership necessary to drive the Humane Society of Delaware County forward. Your donation supports the efforts of people like you!
Facility Improvement Fund: Goal $20,000
Donations made to the facility improvement fund make possible the expansion and upkeep of the Humane Society of Delaware County.
In 1986, the generosity of Mr. Peter Martin funded the land and building we now know as the Humane Society of Delaware County.
Each year since 1986, the number of animals served by the society has increased.
In 2008 the number of animals walking into the facility homeless, and walking back out with a loving family will top 1,500! That totals up to a staggering 73,000 meals, 8,700 hours of care, 51,000 dog walks, 36,000 cans of cat food, and lots of happy animals!
Money raised through this fund will go directly to improving the facility so many animals have come to love and respect. Specific projects slated for 2009 include:
Your donation ensures the facility continues to serve the physical and emotional needs of animals under the society's care. Your donation provides neglected animals with a little slice of "Home".

Ron, Herschel, and Diana Thomas
In memory of their beloved lab, Herschel Thomas, Diana and Ron Thomas of H.E.A.T. Total Facility Solutions, Inc. are donating all the labor to install a new heating and cooling system at HSDC! Currently there is no ventilation system in the building.
The new system will have outdoor air ventilation to keep the animals warm in winter, cool in summer, and healthy all year round with fresh air circulating throughout the building.
This new unit will also decrease the spread of illnesses, and keep the building smelling much fresher.
Herschel and two of his many friends at his 10th birthday party!
Such ventilation is required for people, but not for animals.
H.E.A.T. is getting all equipment at cost and is donating all of the labor for this project, but donations are needed to purchase the equipment!
Summer is already here - won't you please help keep the little girls and guys cool and healthy this hot, hot summer by donating to this project today!
Fewer than half of all dogs adopted from animal shelters are adopted at the shelter---more than half are adopted off-site. There are several reasons for this:
Mobile adoption at Delaware PetStuff
Mobile adoption events allow prospective 'parents' to visit with our pooches outside the confines of the Humane Society, in a more natural environment for both. This provides a better way for both people and dogs to determine if their match will be a happy one that lasts for a long time.
Some events also allow our canine guests to run, play, and explore - to be the happy dogs they long to be, at least for a few hours.
